Pinakamalaking Pinoy Fiesta Ko Sa Texas

By Daniella Flanagan

HOUSTON, TX – “Fiesta Ko Sa Texas, ang Pinakamalaki at Pinakamasayang Fiesta Sa America” came and went before the downpour of a Tropical Depression hit the fourth largest city in the United States.

As usual, the fiesta was full of Pinoys and friends and the merriment and food that go along with partying with Filipinos filled the center up the rafters!

What is Fiesta Ko Sa Texas?

Fiesta Ko Sa Texas is a Filipino festival at its 5th year of celebration with an entire day of fun, Filipino food and Filipino musical entertainment!

Fiesta Ko Sa Texas was hosted by Bhong Zausa and Jay R Zausa of One Philippines. It was held last September 2 at the Bayou City Event Center at 9401 Knight Rd. Houston, TX.

Special Guest – Carla Abellana

This year, the special guest was Carla Abellana, a kapuso actress queen! Rumor has it (facebook comment actually) that she is the niece of a locally admired Houstonian, Kuya Bobby. Thank you Kuya for you 20 years of community service to the Filipino community, Dr. Roberto “Kuya Bobby” Reyes; and for all you continue to do!

So much happens at Fiesta ko sa Texas

Raffles, Singing Contests, even the first ever Miss Fiesta Ko Sa Texas Pageant and more happened at the celebration! Local faces and talents got the opportunity to shine bright – even the smallest of Pinoys like the amazing talented kids of Munting Pinoy! Picture courtesy of Bernadette Staples.

The Filipino Houston community is gifted with strong visionary leaders and change agents. They support fiestas, special events, even the incoming consulate with thousands of personal hours and dollars.

Here are just a few of the amazing people in leadership roles in Houston: (From left to right) #FiestaKoSaTexas founder Bhong Zausa with Dr. Bobby Reyes and members of Board of Directors of Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Texas Ella Robbins-Guinhawa, Ricky Guinhawa and Jun Juguilon. #Kapuso #GMA

Talent on top of Talent

There were even Filipino Martial Arts demonstrations.

Kali Kilat Kombatives of the Mandirigmang Kaliradman performed for the Filipinos and friends of Filipinos at the Bayou City Event Center. Check out their amazing abilities here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPzPd8OgEKs #martialarts

Renowned dance and musical Houston groups were staples again this year at Fiesta Ko Sa Texas. One of the most renown is Tropical Rhythms.

They yet again raised the bar on live performances. It’s always lovely to see Neni Navarette and Bessie Kirkman and all the ladies of Tropical Rhythms at an event showcasing the cultural beauty of the Philippines and Asia right here in the heart of Texas! #buongpusokapusoabroad.

Look at Ate Neni! Check out the ladies in their beautiful traditional attire. Catch Kuya Bobby with these lovely ladies – May Delossantos-Alidon, Neni Navarette, Bessie Kirkman and Minette Sardea Chiu at Bayou City Event Center Houston! The smiles say it all! #pinoyako #pinoypride

Celebrity meet and greet

As per usual attendees get a photo opp with the celebrity guest that the Zausa’s meticulously plan; check out the smiles from ear to ear of some familiar Filipino-Houstonian faces with Carla Abellana – Ate ‘maimai-Darlene Maydee Quimco Reyes is joined by Ate Abby Hamdan, Ate Bessie Kirkman and Kuya Bobby Reyes at Bayou City Event Center Houston.

Connected supportive and thriving

Ang komunidad ng mga Pilipino sa Houston ay malapit na; at mahusay na konektado sa mga komunidad sa buong Texas mula sa McAllen sa Lubbock sa San Antonio sa Dallas sa Beaumont.

Even with their busy thriving careers and lives, the Pinoys of Houston are sure to make time for each other weekly and definitely for Fiesta Ko Sa Texas yearly.

You can see the genuine love and connection of these kaibigans and kababayans!

See the pride of another local singing celebrity Tito Jimmy Canlas with Mr. Bhong Zausa, Jimmy Canlas and the LDC Dancers. Tito Jimmy even performed! Age is just a number thank you Tito for reminding us to go for our dreams at any age!

Maraming salamat po

From all the Pinoys in attendance, we give a special MARAMING SALAMAT PO to Mr. Bhong and Mr. Jay Zausa of AZ Media Entertainment Services, and to Mr. Jush Andowitt of GMA Pinoy TV. We know this is a massive production and a labor of love – we are always grateful for what you do to showcase the talent in Texas!
