NOW on its 16th edition, the Philippine Building and Construction Exposition Cebu or simply PHILBEX Cebu is set to return this September to deliver another thought-provoking and productive trade event. Guided by the theme of “Shaping Innovations Toward Sustainability,” this year’s PHILBEX envisions to promote the value of sustainable perspectives in conjuring innovations in the field of construction and design.
Echoing the same aspirations for the industry, the Philippine Institute of Interior Design (PIID) Visayas-Mindanao (VisMin) Chapter has teamed up with PHILBEX Cebu to host this year’s edition of the PIID VisMin chapter Caravan and to highlight the caravan, the PIID VisMin chapter will be conducting a conference entitled “The Business of Interior Design”.
In keeping with the chapter’s “Design For All” advocacy, the conference seeks to open up a dialogue about sustainable entrepreneurial solutions and innovations that will hopefully equip designers and practitioners with the necessary tools and know-how in their plight towards nurturing their interior design practice. Particularly focused on enlightening practitioners about the entrepreneurial processes of the trade, the conference will attempt to navigate around the three key stages of running a design firm. These involve the initiation, the securing process, and finally, the sustaining of the design practice.
Open to all interior design practitioners and other industry professionals, the conference fee is priced at PhP1,750 per day and PhP3,500 for two days. Those who will attend the conference can also earn 10 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
Set to unfold over the course of two days at PHILBEX Cebu, the first day of the conference will kick-off on September 15. To lead the discussions, Esperanza T.L. Melgar of the Department of Trade and Industries – Cebu will be conducting a lecture on business registrations. This will then be followed by a lecture by IDr. Holly Dawn Dychangco of Holidawn Home on creating one’s design firm as well as a lecture on basic accounting for non-accountants by Dr. Liberato A. Reyes, MBA, DM, REB, CCS.
On the second day, IDr. Hanna Lim Escano of HL Design will conduct a lecture on building studio culture which will be followed by a talk on the value of marketing for interior design firms by Carla Marie Moras Adlwan of White Brick Studio; a discussion about risk management by IDr. Raymond Fuentes; and finally, a lecture on community engagement by IDr. Heidrun Milan.
To culminate the conference, a panel discussion will also take place on the second day of the event to tackle the challenges and experiences that designer-entrepreneurs encounter. Among the panelists include freelancers, start-up design teams, and long-time players in the field such as IDr. Sheryl Marinas, IDr. Hazel Resari, IDr. Joan Reyes, IDr. Mai-t Robles Go, and IDr. Jan Iron Baba.
Very much in line with the objectives of this year’s PHILBEX Cebu, the PIID VisMin chapter caravan’s goal is to uplift the interior design profession by way of uniting the practitioners in their mutual pursuit for excellence.
Moreover, the caravan can also be seen as a considerable attempt by the PIID chapter to extend and implement the aims of the “Build, Build, Build” program well into the realm of Visayan interior design.
Apart from being highly-regarded for showcasing the most extensive display of the latest and most outstanding products and services in the market, PHILBEX Cebu is also known for hosting a compelling line-up of pocket activities. Entertaining as they are advantageous, events such as the PIID VisMin caravan are expected to facilitate the exchange of relevant information among industry practitioners.
