THE Quezon City Council has directed the Quezon City Small Business Development and Promotion Office through a resolution to conduct livelihood and skills training, business and entrepreneurial seminars and workshops, including financial aid worth PhP5,000 per family, to displaced Payatas Sanitary Landfill workers.

City Resolution 7448-2018 aims to promote self-reliance to indigent families and start-ups for small-scale entrepreneurs affected by the Payatas landfill closure.

To avail of the trainings, workshops and seminar, landfill workers should be registered under the Payatas Alliance Recycling Exchange Multi-purpose Cooperative.

The Payatas Alliance Recycling Exchange Multi-purpose Cooperative has more than 2000 members.

Under City Ordinance 1607-2005, the QC Small Business Development and Promotion Office is tasked to provide entrepreneurship skills training and education to the city’s underprivileged residents.

Small Business Development and Promotion Office (formerly known as Sikap Buhay) will provide entrepreneurship training and education, promoting self-reliance among the underprivileged constituents of Quezon City and facilitating the provision of start-up capital for small scale entrepreneurs,” the resolution read.

The closure of the landfill last August left a thousand landfill workers jobless.

The abrupt closure left a thousand of Barangay Payatas residents with no means of livelihood and there is a need to address the loss of livelihood of said constituents,” the resolution read.
