THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has continued its reward giving and this time 12 civilian informants were given cash reward totaling least PhP7.3 million under the agency’s “Operation: Private Eye(OPE),” a reward and incentive scheme designed to encourage private citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities in their community.

PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino personally handed the cash reward amounting to PhP7,389,508.52 to the informants who were identified only through their code names: Ador, Sakuragi, Jacpat, Kidlat, 24, Bungo, Mike, Kulas, Sandro, Ex-Boy, Abo, and Agila.

I commend them for providing information that led to the arrest of 25 drug personalities, the dismantling of clandestine laboratory used in the manufacture of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, and the seizure of over PhP4 billion worth of shabu, ephedrine and marijuana,” Aquino said.

The informants, who wore masks to hide their identity, received the reward money during a simple ceremony last Tuesday at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City. The Private Eye Rewards Committee, composed of members from the academe, non-government organizations, law enforcement, religious and business sectors, approved the resolution granting monetary rewards to the informants after careful and thorough deliberation.

Community vigilance is vital in the hope of winning the war against illegal drugs. Local folks need to be PDEA’s eyes and ears in barangays to see and hear if there is an illegal drug activity happening around their neighborhood,” Aquino said.

The awarding ceremony of PDEA OPE is done on a quarterly basis. Tuesday’s ceremony is the third under Aquino.

  1. Any means to curtail the proliferation of drugs other than the criminal murdering of innocent suspects should be encouraged. However, regarding the reward to its own operating units with at least PhP 7 million cash supposedly for meritorious service, I didn’t know any government agency can reward itself for accomplishing what it is duty bound to perform. That’s the reason they are already being paid salaries.
