IN A bid to recoup his losses, a gambler on Wednesday stole a cellular phone from the charging station of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 domestic area, it was reported by the police yesterday.

According to Jericho Jude Baldonado, 44, a resident of Makati City, he lost a lot of money due to his gambling so he decided to steal one of the phones being charged at the airport’s charging station to sell it afterwards. But a loser that he is, he also lost this criminal enterprise, proving once again that crime does not pay, as he was arrested by responding policemen and airport security guards following a brief chase.

Marlon Fernandez Pancho told investigators he was surprised that someone grabbed his cellphone while being charged. He said he was waiting for his relatives when the incident happened, adding that he immediately shouted for help.

As soon as his plea for help was heard, the police and airport security personnel were immediately on their toes running after the suspect who was cornered not far from where he committed his felony. The cellphone was recovered and returned to the victim.

Pancho thanked airport policemen Michael Agarin, Christian Tanique, Manrico Ligas Gerardo Orga, Jr., and the Philippine National Police personnel – PO1s Aaron Tubilla Jr. and Aderly Salonga – who gave chase and arrested Baldonado.

The suspect is now under the custody of the Airport Police Department for proper filing of case against him.

Meanwhile, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal commended the policemen for the arrest of the snatcher. At the same time, he advised well-wishers and send off parties to be more alert about their belongings while at the airport.
