PH’ Napolcom honors gallant cops on its 51st founding anniversary

THE National Police Commission on Friday honored three gallant cops who have shown bravery and dedication to duty during its 51st Founding Anniversary celebration in its main office in Quezon City.

NAPOLCOM Vice-Chairman and Executive Officer Rogelio T. Casurao said a plaque of commendation and cash reward of P10,000.00 each will be awarded to the three honorees who “displayed conspicuous courage and gallantry in the performance of their duties.”

Casurao identified the honorees as:

  • P/Senior Inspector Mark Gil S. Garcia, former chief of the Special Operations Unit of the Rizal Provincial Police Office (PPO). He will be honored with a posthumous award for his conspicuous bravery and gallantry in action in leading a group of the Rizal Provincial Intelligence Branch-Special Operating Unit operatives in a series of buy-bust police operations in different municipalities in Rizal on August 19, 2016 in line with the PNP anti-illegal drugs campaign.  Garcia bravely led his team in the successful arrest and neutralization of eight drug suspects that compelled them to engage in an armed encounter resulting in his death.
  • Senior Police Officer 1 Roberto A. Villamor of the Oas Police Office, Albay PPO demonstrated extraordinary bravery and dedication to duty by serving as negotiator during a hostage-taking incident on September 5, 2016 in a passenger bus in Oas, Albay which saved the lives of a two-year old child and two female hostages and the arrest of the hostage taker. 
  • Police Officer 2 Joselito A. Lantano of the Police Security and Protection Group, PNP National Headquarters exhibited exceptional bravery and dedication to serve and protect the citizenry by taking calculated steps to prevent a robbery incident on a passenger bus along EDSA, Quezon City on April 4, 2017 which that resulted in the successful neutralization of the three criminals and saving the lives of the bus passengers.

“The acts of bravery of these police officers displayed the extraordinary courage and professionalism in a circumstance of peril and exemplary performance beyond the call of duty is worthy of emulation among their fellow officers in the police service and uplifts the image of the Philippine National Police,” Casurao said

“This clearly manifests their commitment to serve and protect the people.”

Nelson Flores, J.D., MSCK
A former reporter of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Standard Today, and a regular columnist of the Metro Manila based daily tabloid newspaper Hataw; Nelson Flores is also the former Senior Associate Editor of the Houston based Fil-Am Press and former anchor of dzXL and dzRJ's weekend talk show Usaping Bayan. Mr. Flores has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Law degrees from the University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University and a holder of a study certificate from the Diocesan House of Studies, Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI). He is a Freemason and member of Reagan Lodge 1037 in Houston Heights under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas and a member of the Missionary Society of Christ the King (MSCK).
