STOP Corruption Philippines, a cause oriented group for good governance, calls on Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa immediately resign from his post for allegedly losing control of the institution he heads and his failure to fulfill his promise to eliminate crime within six months.
At the same time, the group warns of the danger posed by the citizens indifference to the mounting death toll of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
“Being indifferent to the death of the innocent people or the collateral damage that the war on drug brings such as the recent death (in Caloocan City) of a 17-year old boy (Hideyoshi Kawata) in order to pursue the gung-ho Gestapo style on war against drugs is neither justifiable nor must be ignored. When we are in pursuit of legitimate goal through an illegitimate means and don’t even feel any guilt in the loss of innocent people’s lives, young or old, rich or poor, male or female;…it tells us one thing — we have now become callous, and that is dangerous…, the group said in a statement sent to Beyond Deadlines.
Moreover, the group stressed that the campaign promise of President Duterte to eliminate the crime and drugs in 3 to 6 months has never been fulfilled. It also stressed that none of the more than 6,000 people killed in the war against drugs were legally proven to be drug pushers.
At the same time, the SCP denied speculations that their call for Dela Rosa’s resignation is politically motivated. They noted that they are just consistent with their belief that the Philippines should be free of corruption. It maintained that it is just consistent with its mission noting for instance that it was the first group in 2013 to initiate the resignation of then Chief PNP Alan Purisima over brazen corruption, Mamasapano and other issues.
To prove its point that Dela Rosa has no institutional control and should therefore resign from his post, the SCP cited the mysterious death of Mayor Espinosa inside his jail cell in the hands of policemen. It also mentioned an incident reported by Business World that on December 21, 2015 when alleged drug dealers from prominent families in Davao City who are neighbors of President Duterte reportedly evaded a police drug raid. The said big time drug pushers remain at large and unnamed to date.
Director General Dela Rosa, the SCP insisted, has lost control over his people because he is busy socializing, attending even the concert of Bryan Adams concert despite the fact that there are so many problems in the PNP such as the missing South Korean businessman Jee Ick-Joo.
Unfortunately, Jee Ick-Joo, who is reportedly a victim of Oplan Tokhang, is now dead. He was said to have been killed in an office inside the PNP’s headquarters, Camp Crame, by rogue policemen.
While we know that as human being, the PNP chief is also entitled to relax or watch some entertainment shows such as the concert of Bryan Adams but doing this in the height of the problem on Jee Ick-Joo is not prudent. Now that incident has caught the attention of the international community to our country’s detriment.
“The death of the South Korean Businessman Jee Ick-Joo would surely scare a lot of foreign investors and would certainly affect our choking economy, ” the group said.
Furthermore, the SCP claims that they can already see the seeming juvenile character of Gen. Bato and his penchant for entertainment.
The SCP recalled that last year Dela Rosa and his family went to watch Pacquaio fight in the US despite the fact that this allegedly posits a violation of Republic Act 6713 states that “public officials and employees shall not solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, any gift, gratuity, favor, entertainment, loan or anything of monetary value from any person in the course of their official duties or in connection with any operation being regulated by, or any transaction which may be affected by the functions of their office.”
There are much more deserving Senior Police Generals that should have been promoted. We believe General Dela Rosa is not yet emotionally, psychologically and spiritually ready to handle this top police post.
