AN honest wheelchair attendant of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport redeemed the reputation of his fellow helpers which was badly tarnished during the height of the bullet planting extortion scheme (laglag bala) after he returned over P100,000 cash to its rightful owner, Nueva Ecija Rep. Magnolia Antonino Nadres.

For his honesty, Valiente Namion was commended by Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal and NAIA Terminal 1 Manager Dante Basanta. His honesty redeemed the reputation of NAIA wheelchair attendants after some of them were implicated in the operation of an extortion gang at the country’s premier airport last year.

According to airport authorities, Namion, who is a wheelchair attendant of the Integrated Workers Services Cooperative, found a plastic pouch on an unattended pushcart at the Arrival Conveyor Area of NAIA Terminal 1. He immediately turned over his find at the Lost and Found Section of the airport’s Intelligence and Investigation Division.

During the inventory of the pouch’s content, 102 pieces of one thousand peso bills, four pieces of one hundred bills, 1 piece of twenty-peso bill, three pieces of five centavo coins, 21 pieces of one peso coins, six pieces of 25 centavo coins, and two pieces of ten centavo coins totaling P102,457.70 and several bank cards were found.

The pouch was later claimed by a representative from the office of Rep. Nadres.
