AVIATION Specialist Rio Desabille could have pocketed the different currencies he recently found at Gate 14 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, but the better part of him decided not to. Instead, he went out of his way to look for its owner and returned the cash laden wallet.
The 31-year old Desabille, an Aviation Operations & Management Specialists Inc. (Avomsi) personnel for four years, was inspecting Gate 14 looking for items that may left behind by passengers when he spotted a black wallet. His immediate thought was to return it to its rightful owner, who by that time has already boarded the Seoul bound Aseana Airlines flight OZ702. .
Desabille proceeded to the Aseana Airlines Duty manager Lida Tan and informed her of his find.
Wasting no time, Tan rushed inside the plane, which was about to push back, and asked who among the passengers is missing a wallet. A “distraught” Korean passenger identified as Syu Kiun Jun raised his hand and told Tan that he was looking for his wallet which he correctly described.
After some verification, the wallet which contained P18,880.00 and 30,000.00 Korean won as well as US $2, was turned over to Syu who expressed gratitude to Desabille.
In his accomplishment report, Avomsi Field Supervisor Teodolo V. Esteva recommended that Desabille be given commendation for his honesty.
Avomsi on Thursday said that it is part of the job of aviation specialist to inspect what is left by passengers at the designated boarding area after the passengers left to board the plane.
