THE presence of policemen and security personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport did not deter a 53-year old bag snatcher from grabbing the purse of an unsuspecting airline passenger who just arrived at the Philippines premier airport Wednesday to catch an early morning flight.
Police and airport guards, after a brief chase, arrested and identified the alleged petty criminal as Yvanne R. Lacson, a resident of Malibay, Pasay City. The police said this is the first time that a petty criminal tried to victimize travelers coming to the airport.
The victim just alighted from a van and was about to enter NAIA’s Terminal 2 when the suspect allegedly struck from behind. The victim screamed for help which caught the attention of nearby police officers and airport guards.
Lacson tried to flee towards the north wing of the departure area but was cornered . He stopped running and surrendered to the pursuing authorities. The incident caused a minor ruckus at the airport terminal.
In view of this unprecedented incident, the NAIA management said they will deploy more policemen and plainclothes security personnel to ensure the safety of people at the airport.
